New Music Edmonton Now Hear This Festival, 2025 Call For Proposals

New Music Edmonton is inviting artists active in experimental sound and music areas from the amiskwaciy-wâskahikan/ Edmonton region to submit proposals for performances to take place during our next Now Hear This Festival, June 6 - 15, 2025.

We are now accepting proposals from artists to perform on shared bills during the festival. Rather than set categories, we want you to tell us what you want to do!

In past years we have had an incredible range of performances, including short solo performances (composed or improvised), chamber ensembles, live electronic works, and mixed-discipline works involving sound installation, dance, theatre, visual arts, and poetry.

We regret that at this time we cannot guarantee availability of an acoustic piano.

Please note that submission of works does not guarantee inclusion in the festival. Accepted performers will be compensated with a performance fee commensurate with standard professional performance rates.

Minimum/ Maximum duration: 15 - 20 minutes

Maximum personnel: 3

Maximum number of proposals per artist: 1

Proposals deadline is November 15, 2024, 11:59 PM. All applicants will be notified of results on or before December 16, 2024.

New Music Edmonton Equity Statement: In calling for and reviewing proposals, New Music Edmonton strives for equity and actively seeks out both demographic and stylistic diversity. We recognize that treating all people equally does not guarantee fairness, but can, instead, reinforce extant biases. As such, in contributing to a reliably equitable environment in our own presentations, the arts generally, and society as a whole, we endorse and have adopted policies whose outcomes promote fair distribution of opportunities.

We especially welcome and proactively select proposals reflecting our equity goals, and strongly encourage proposals from historically excluded demographics.

New Music Edmonton announces this open call for proposals from local and Canadian artists, or artists resident in Canada at the time of performance, to perform in Edmonton in our next two seasons, between September 2025 and June 2027.

Our annual seasons feature the widest possible spectrum of performances including sound/music as a central component. We welcome proposals offering contemporary chamber music, interdisciplinary performances, electronic music, free improvisation, avant jazz, experimental music, multimedia and sound art.

We will consider proposals from soloists or ensembles.

As a valued partner in Edmonton’s vibrant performing arts community, New Music Edmonton is committed to presenting local and visiting artists and to bringing our audiences cutting-edge events of professional caliber. We’re excited to get underway in planning this landmark season, and we hope you will consider sending us your ideas!   Informal inquiries may be sent to <nmegeneralmanager@gmail.com>.

Please note that submission of works does not guarantee inclusion in the festival and New Music Edmonton reserves the right to program artists who have not submitted formal proposals. Accepted performers will be compensated with a performance fee commensurate with standard professional performance rates.
